Ogun First Lady Distributes 120 Solar Reading Lamps

Mrs. Oluwakemi Abiodun Soyebi, Founder of Shokesta Development Initiative and Ogun State Coordinator of the Women in Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (WIRE-A), recently played a key role in a renewable-energy outreach supported by the First Lady of Ogun State, Her Excellency Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun. The initiative focused on promoting clean energy and inclusive education through the distribution of solar-powered reading lamps to students in Abeokuta.

The outreach was carried out under the Clean Green Renewable Energy Initiative, organised by WIRE-A in collaboration with the Smiling Simon Greenbuild Foundation (SSGF). As part of the programme, 120 solar reading lamps were distributed to students of Alaba Lawson Group of Schools, providing sustainable lighting solutions for learning, especially for children affected by unreliable electricity supply.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Soyebi emphasised that access to lighting plays a critical role in educational development, particularly for children in underserved communities and those living with disabilities. She described the solar lamps as tools that extend learning beyond daylight hours while also promoting environmental responsibility and awareness of renewable energy from an early age.

She commended the First Lady of Ogun State for her continued support for education, sustainability, and child-centred initiatives, noting that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to building a greener and more inclusive future. Mrs. Soyebi reaffirmed her dedication, through both WIRE-A and Shokesta Development Initiative, to advancing solutions that empower children, strengthen communities, and encourage long-term sustainable development.
