The Founder of Shokesta Development Initiative, Rotarian Soyebi Oluwakemi Abiodun, has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, empathy, and unity as essential tools for building a better nation. In her message to mark the 2023 International Day of Peace, she emphasized that true peace cannot be achieved through political or economic reform alone—it begins with a transformation in human behavior and values.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s observance, “Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals,” Rotarian Abiodun—fondly known as Shokesta Woman—urged individuals and communities to see peace as a shared responsibility. “This day reminds us that we all have a role to play in promoting non-violence, tolerance, and understanding,” she said. “Only through empathy and compassion can we overcome hatred, suspicion, and division.”
She further noted that the essence of peace lies in engaging not just with allies, but also with those we perceive as opponents. “When you are willing to work together with those you disagree with, you build bridges that turn enemies into allies,” she said. “Peace starts within. Without inner peace, there can be no peace in the world around us.”
The International Day of Peace, as highlighted by Shokesta Development Initiative, is not just about global harmony—it’s a call to action for everyone to foster peace in their families, communities, and hearts. “Let us remember that darkness cannot drive out darkness—only light can do that. In the same way, hatred can only be overcome with love,” she concluded.
Shokesta Development Initiative is a registered humanitarian organization under the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria, committed to promoting peace, empowering the vulnerable, and building stronger, more compassionate communities.
